This article assumes that Learning Management Systems (LMS), such as Moodle or Blackboard, cannot respond to the current needs of our learners and fail to create bridges with Web 3.0. As such, through a literature review, we will seek on the one hand, to reflect on the need to resort to the Reflective and Participatory Approach to Design (RAPAD) methodology and the creation of Personal Learning Environments (PLE), in order to provide truly effective distance learning responses to our e-mails. students. On the other hand, we will focus on the concept of interoperability between LMS and Web 3.0 tools and its implementation, in order to create an engaging, immersive and universal learning ecosystem.
With regard to our empirical study, we will carry out a research of a quantitative nature, using questionnaires applied to students from different organic units of the Polytechnic of Porto, with the aim of: a) accounting for their digital identity card, namely regarding the use of technological resources and the mobilization of digital skills, in relation to their personal and academic day-to-day; b) drawing an inventory of their representations regarding the use of the Moodle platform and other Web 2.0/3.0 applications, in order to comprehend their PLE profile.
The main results show that students consider Moodle to be an important tool in the teaching and learning process, but it should not be seen as the only tool for developing knowledge and skills.
