Abstract

This article presents an investigation, developed with 20 students of the 2nd year of schooling, aged between 7 and 8 years old, whose main objective was to investigate the influence of music in the acquisition and understanding of mathematical knowledge.

Following a qualitative methodology, different data collection techniques were used: direct observation and document analysis (during the study), interview with the class teacher (before and at the end of the study) and focus group with the students (at the end of the study).

A didactic sequence was developed, composed of four training sessions, where the exploration of mathematical knowledge was done in an articulated way with Music.

Regarding Mathematics, the investigation focused on two domains: “Numbers and Operations”, where elementary operations were worked on, based on the resolution of contextualized problems; and “Geometry and Measurement”, where geometric figures were addressed. Regarding Music, the research focused on the field of “Experimentation and Creation”, exploring different sound sources, improvising and creating sound environments.

After carrying out the study, it was verified that the students were productively involved in carrying out the proposed tasks, showing greater motivation and enthusiasm and acquired mathematical knowledge contextualized from Music.
