The paper presents an action-research project developed in the practicum of a pre-service master's degree for English teaching in the 3rd and 4th grades. The project focused on exploring gamification in language activities and self-assessment of learning, in some cases using technology. Its central purpose was to understand how gamification can favor children’s involvement in language learning, which was confirmed by their perceptions regarding their performance and the activities carried out, collected through self- regulation questionnaires. The main shortcoming of the project lies in its exploratory nature, which was mainly due to the characteristics of the class, which required an approach adjusted to the children’s needs, which would enhance collaboration, self-confidence and progress in learning. From a broader perspective, the project makes it possible to understand the potential of action-research for developing reflective teachers who are sensitive to the contexts of practice and open to educational change.
