The combination of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and gamification emerges as an innovative approach to enhance both effectiveness and motivation in the educational process. This paper presents Gamibot, a gamified educational chatbot designed to integrate with the Moodle platform and support higher education students. Gamibot leverages large language models (LLMs) to provide personalized interactions, including features such as answering questions, generating adaptive quizzes, and summarizing content, with optional text-to-speech capabilities. The system’s gamification layer includes mechanics such as points, badges, levels, and usage statistics, aiming to foster continuous student engagement.
Gamibot’s architecture was designed to ensure cross-platform compatibility, applicability across different subjects, data security, and scalability. This article describes the architecture, implementation, and evaluation of Gamibot, including an analysis of the state of the art in LLMs, chatbot development platforms, gamification frameworks, and LMS integration mechanisms. The evaluation was based on usability and performance testing, with results indicating positive user acceptance, particularly regarding pedagogical usefulness and a motivating interface. This study reinforces the potential of generative AI combined with gamification as a support tool in higher education, highlighting future directions to its expansion and customization.
