Abstract

The computer revolution is not only based on a change of technology, on the contrary, we can consider that it implies a profound cultural and civilisational change. From the perspective of tradition and for a mind like ours, accustomed and trained in the dynamics of traditional technology (mechanical-analogical), the introduction of informatics in the technological and projectual field, meant a deep and complete change of pre-existing schemes. Hypertext systems seem to imitate the functioning of the human brain, since, human thought processes are not executed according to a linear and determined order. The present study tries to demonstrate the historical evolution of hypertext, simultaneously pointing out the implications and the problematics of its use, through its navigability for the reach of knowledge and learning, pointing out considerations about the transformation of linear reading in book, for a reading based on internet, where the unions that link words, images, sounds and pages, establish navigation paths through the hypertextual network that seems to be infinite.
