This article aims to present a first approach to the analysis of the types of grammar exercises present in a project of Spanish as a Foreign Language, composed of two Secondary Education textbooks – one for 10th grade and one for 11th grade – used in educational institutions in Portugal.
We started with a classification proposal (Silva & Silva, 2011, p. 1356), which we adapted, of types of exercises to check which were the most frequent ones. Simultaneously, we also surveyed the command verbs of each exercise to see if there was any relationship between these verbs and the types of exercises.
We verified that there are several types of grammar exercises, but that there is a higher frequency of Transformation, Completion and Association exercises. Regarding the command verbs, we concluded that there are quite a few to be used, but, similarly to the exercises, there is a prevalence of one: “completar”.
