Abstract

Since 2017, we have made efforts in the project “ADAPTATION AND VALIDATION OF THE SUPPORTS INTENSITY SCALE FOR CHILDREN (SIS-C) WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY IN BRAZIL” (carried out with the support of the National Federation of APAEs, with research authorization from the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities), based on Tassé and Thompson's (2010) guidelines, which define seven steps for translation and adaptation of tools. In this study, we are going to address phase three “Validation of the preliminary translation”. Thus, the objective was to analyze the semantics, content, relevance of the items, correction of discrepancies and checking the clarity of information, verifying the meaning and the use of expressions in Brazilian Portuguese. For the validation of the preliminary translation, two protocols were created (Classification of Activities and Semantic Analysis), and sent to a committee of five PhD professors from each region of Brazil. The agreement was between 50 and 60% in the first part of the Scale. In the second section, only one domain was between 50 and 60%, the others showed agreement above 70%. This way, the agreement was above 75%, which is in line with the literature, demonstrating consistency and cultural adaptation of the scale to the Brazilian reality.
