Abstract
In addition to the translation into Portuguese of Anton Chekhov's short story “The Revenge”, a brief approach to the author's work is made in the introduction, where are mentioned the main characteristics of the Chekhovian style, which influenced writers and playwrights worldwide. The translated tale is one of many humorous stories that the author writes in the period 1885–86, where it is possible to observe the impressionistic way Chekhov likes to use in order to portray his characters, transforming their perceptions into the predominant perspective.
Keywords: translation, Anton Chekhov, literature, short story.
