Current changes require school and educational practices to reconfigure themselves to meet the demands of these times of unpredictability and change. This article intends to understand how the educational practices can contribute to the understanding of the reality and the development of values and competences in the students that allow them to respond to the 21st century challenges. We chose a case study, highlighting real practices in an educational context that involves a 3rd grade class, and a qualitative methodology (focus group) that allows listening to the voices of the children, the cooperating teacher and the future teachers responsible for the practices education. Content analysis was used as a data collection tool. Two educational practices were planned based on the project work methodology including emerging digital technology. The results show that the used methodology and selected resources catered for a close observation of the context and the mobilization of information in the creation of curricular knowledge, adding value to the explored subject, besides facilitating the curricular articulation, the development of skills according to the student profile and catered for the solidarity intervention of the class in a close context that involved the local community.
