CHALLENGES IN THE TRANSLATION OF LEGAL TEXTS FROM SPANISH INTO ALBANIAN. AN APPROACH TO SOME PARADIGMATIC CASES

In Albania, there is still no Spanish-Albanian legal terminology dictionary that an Albanian translator can refer to. Thanks to the bilateral relations between the Republic of Albania and the Kingdom of Spain, the demand for legal translations has increased, and two years ago, on 16.03.2022, Albania and Spain signed an agreement as an addition to the European
Convention on Extradition dated 13.12.1957, an event that created the need for the translation of a series of legal-administrative documents prepared by the justice authorities of both countries. The focus of this article's study is the translation from Spanish to Albanian of legal texts from the Criminal Chamber, analyzing the translation process of some of the
major translation difficulties faced and still being faced by Albanian translators throughout the process of translating files from the Prosecutor's Office and/or the courts of the country of origin. We will attempt to solve some legal translation problems based on the cognitive functional approach to translation, and at the same time, we will provide some translational comments on certain controversial legal terms.
