In this paper, we intend to briefly analyse the translation act of Helena María Viramontes’ short story “Miss Clairol”. Based on the theoretical assumption of free translation, mainly as an essentially creative process, we highlight the solutions to the problems we have encountered as readers and translators of Viramontes’ story. The translation process in this linguistic-cultural perspective enabled us to produce meanings through decision-making that seemed the most appropriate to maintain the literary expression in the narrative.
