Abstract

This study proposes measures to dignif and professionalize the role of the Spanish Sign Language Specialist (ELSE) within the educational system of the Community of Madrid, with the aim of ensuring quality education for deaf students. The research confirms that the ELSE plays a key role in Early Childhood and Primary Education, serving as a linguistic, cultural, and social reference for deaf children.

However, current employment conditions often do not comply with legal standards, and inclusive education remains a challenge. In this context, the urgent need to improve structural and training-related aspects is highlighted, in order to promote effective inclusion and to recognize the ELSE as a key figure in the educational process of deaf students.
