In a time when domestic violence has led to an increasing number of incidents, continuing to disproportionately affect women, the education and social intervention project “Women and Mothers of Courage” (Monteiro, 2023), through a psychosocial approach (both individual and group) methodologically guided by participatory action research, has brought a new perspective, a renewed outlook, and new hope to the lives of five women who are victims of domestic violence. The project was co-constructed and developed over the course of a year, aiming to rebuild the life projects of these women, fostering their empowerment, autonomy, and the development of positive relationships. Various research and action strategies were employed, such as document analysis, participant observation, intentional conversations, group dynamic exercises, debates, and joint reflections. The participatory action research demonstrated that the key to social transformation and change lies within the people themselves and how they can and should be the agents and protagonists of their own personal fulfillment, breaking pre-established barriers and destructive emotional ties, thanks to the collaborative power developed among all participants within a relational space of trust and respect.
