The article presents a field practice carried out as part of the PhD research in progress at the Story Design Laboratory (Dhis) of the Department of Arts and Design at PUC-Rio. The dynamics took place in the discipline Illustration for Fictional Narrative, at the graduation in Design at PUC-Rio in 2021 and aimed to introduce students to the hybrid method of image analysis through the exposition of concepts and practice in class. The theory that supports the experience is the Semiology of Reality, from Pasolini (1981), presented as a semiological method for analyzing complex contexts, multisensory and multimodal. As it is a model of analysis that crosses different levels of reality, it brings with it the notion of hybridity.
As a result of the experience, it is understood that there is a weakness in access to known image analysis methods. Therefore, students find it difficult to develop hybrid analyzes and, consequently, critical readings. Reducing this gap and promoting media literacy is part of an agenda of measures in favor of communicational sustainability for an ethical and responsible logic for cultural production.
