According to the World Health Organization, about 20% of adolescents may develop a depressive episode after age 15 if they are not the target of preventive intervention.
In this study, we present the foundations, structure, main contents, and resources of a depression prevention and mental health promotion program aimed at 3rd-cycle adolescents: SMSyouth.
The SMSyouth program is a structured group intervention consisting of 10 thematic sessions and one booster session, delivered in a blended format (using the SMS eHealth platform). It is based on the principles of cognitive-behavioral therapy and the third-wave approach.
In the future, we intend to conduct studies on the effectiveness, acceptability, feasibility, and integrity of the SMSyouth program, in various contexts (e.g., educational, community-based, and clinical settings), enabling the application of this program, scientifically validated, on a large scale.
