The historical archive of the Lisbon Superior School of Education (ESELx) holds a significant and relevant testimony of the 150 years of Lisbon teachers training. The manuscript collection is composed by different types of manuscript books that allow to unveil the educational, social and cultural practices of the different education institutions that preceded ESELx: Normal Schools for both sexes; Normal Primary School, funded during the 1st Republic period (1910-1926) and the Primary Teaching School. In order to develop and promote the significant role of this institution, the project Memória e Identidade: Investigação e Salvaguarda do património histórico da Escola Superior de Educação de Lisboa carried out several actions, among them the inventory of the manuscript collection. The main goal of this text intends to disseminate the work carried out and projected by the project and to show the nature of the documentary collection kept by the Historical Archive, regarding the difficulties in its organization and the ongoing inventory.
