ABSTRACT
Mediation or social intervention is inherently an educational process, who looks for social transformation and development. In the course of this process, the educator has the book at his disposal, a powerful pedagogical resource when used in a planned, reflected and shared way. This paper aims to reflect on the presence of child abuse and foster care in children's literature. Initially, we introduce a theoretical framework which address to concepts such as child abuse, the impact of domestic violence on children, and foster care, as a way of protecting children and young people in danger. Then we describe how a group of children's literature stories narrates these realities and how can be used in educational processes and social intervention, in training of social workers or social educators, and to connect with children and young people or other adults. It is our intention to reflect, in particular, on essential aspects such as the management of memories and the child's journey in out-of-home care system, violence and separation of the family of origin, feelings associated with the placement, contacts with parents, and the challenges for the future, while emphasizing the simple, effective and sensitive way the book educate (us).
