Abstract

Since the mid-1920 the regulatory bodies of the professional practice of management have been recommending that the extensively used cognition-based methodologies should be replaced by learning with a focus on the acquisition of skills.

The goal of this communication is to report the introduction of a constructionist approach to experimental learning through the use of the Kolb model, as a way to better capacitate students for the knowledge and internalization of the necessary skills for the management of organizations, discussing some of the changes introduced to the curricular unit and evaluating the results.

In this experiment, the model's abstract-concrete dimension is supported by a traditional learning process (through the transmission of knowledge and case studies) and its active-reflective dimension is supported by the contact with local companies. To this effect, classes are divided into groups that autonomously select the companies and interview members of their respective boards, where they approach and perceive how the concepts, the study are applied. Afterwards, in a report, students are challenged to identify the management principles in their company's culture and proceed to their critical analysis. The report is then discussed within the class in designated sessions.
