Abstract

The "Education for Art (EpA) in the early teaching of English" emerges as a new didactic approach that creates bridges between Art and Language. Art provides the context for the acquisition of L2 and both, art and L2, culminate in the development of the relationship between the human being and the world in the cultural, artistic and linguistic aspects. This interdisciplinary approach results from the recognition of a set of theoretical premises: knowledge should not be compartmentalized and, as such, should not be hierarchical; access to art should not be a luxury, but a necessity; Language and Art are forms of subjective and creative expression, promoting the overall development of the child. In an increasingly global and changeable society, education needs a panacea to cure disrespect for these premises. To achieve this end, the research focused on two observation groups, teachers and students, to realize how far the phenomenon under study was only a potentiality or a reality. Through field work (Iturra, 1986) it was possible to construct a new didactic approach in the early teaching of a second language. The EpA went from a two-dimensional theory, the paper, to a three-dimensional reality, that of the classroom.
