Implementation of human resources management system on a nonprofit organisation: the case of Social Center of S. Martinho de Brufe

The system of Human Resources Management assumes an important role in achieving of mission and objectives of organisations. This requires from the human resources management function a deeper attention on coherent development of human resources management practices oriented for organisational performance (Martins & Silva, 2013). Within these concerns related to the importance of human resources management system of current organisations, a study was developed, within the Portuguese context, aiming at understanding the relevance to implement a human resources management system.
This study has as main objective to intervene on human resources management area of one nonprofit organisation. For this purpose we identified the Social Center of S. Martinho de Brufe to conduct this study.
Considering the requirements defined by the Assessment’s Quality Model of Social Responses (AQMSR) – Modelo de Avaliação da Qualidade das Respostas Sociais (MAQRS) – we have proceeded with the diagnosis of the HRS, followed by the exact configuration of the identified potentiality, the strategic planning and operational strategy. The following step was the implementation of the project. We finished with the appraisal and definition of necessary measures to achieve the aim we sought after, meaning the goal of the project to ensure that the Social Center of S. Martinho de Brufe complies with all the requirements of the “2nd Criterion - People” of the AQMSR, set by the Social Security Institute, in order to successfully submit the certification process.
This empirical study intends to give a contribution for theory and practical of Human Resources Management in Portugal and, especially, on nonprofit organisations.
