Abstract

The leadership is a classic and evolving theme, studied by several authors with different approaches. This research has the purpose of understanding its most recent approach – authentic leadership, in a public hospital in portugal. It was crucial to understand if anauthentic leadership leads to an authentizotic organizational environment and if both explain the employee satisfaction – with work in general and also with the supervisors – and the employees mental health. Using exploratory data, this research also studied the influence of several demographic and professional variables in authentic leadership, authentizotic organizational environment, employee satisfaction and health. The participants in this study were 278 employees, of different professional groups and contract types. Data analysis showed an unquestionable predictive relationship between authentic leadership and employee satisfaction and mental health.the authentic leadership also predicts an authentizotic organizational environment. This shows an improved employee satisfaction andmental health.
