Since its birth in Philadelphia in the 70’s, graffiti has become a worldwide phenomenon and consequently attracted the attention of the academic community across a variety of disciplines. The academic discussion around graffiti has, since its beginning, been focused on issues such as space or criminality. However, when we think of subway and train graffiti, which element stands out, compared to other types of graffiti expression? The following article argues the idea that the differential factor in these cases is their temporal dimension. As such, this paper mobilizes not only written sources, like books and magazines, but also interviews, so as to better build its argument. Three dimensions of time are brought into discussion: that before the execution of the expressions; that of the moment when said expressions are materialized and, finally, that which follows the timeline of the expression from the moment it happens, until its definite erasure.
