About Cantiga de Findar by Julián Herbert

Abstract

Canción de Tumba, by Julián Herbert, was translated into Portuguese as Cantiga de Findar. In the narrative, the narrator's mother has leukemia and agonizes in a hospital. When reflecting on the condition of his mother and on his own, the narrator will also tell the story of his homeland, Mexico. This work aims to draw a relationship between these elements. As it is a self-fictional narrative, there is no clarity in the distinction between fiction and history, but the parallel between these two is present in the history of his mother and his homeland. As a background for the discussion, we will use the text Mother, Nation, and Self: Poetics of Death and Subjectivity in Julian Herbert's Song of Tomb, by Raúl C. Verduzo, in which the author deals with the relationship between mother, country and nation
