In this article, we intend to speak, at first, about the relationship between language and identity, having in mind that one of the main objectives of the EPE [Teaching Portuguese Abroad] is to strengthen the bonding of students with its roots. The work presented here intends precisely to contribute to the development of this emotional link of EPE students in Germany, with the LP [Portuguese Language] and their identity. Secondly, having in mind the diversity of our students, their linguistic and cultural profiles, we identify the status that the LP takes on for these students, addressing to the pedagogical dimensions in the process of E / A [Teaching and learning] of the EPE. We emphasize, as well, the concept of Portuguese as a Heritage Language [PLH], the status that the Portuguese takes for EPE students in Germany, regarded as the minority language used by the children of immigrants of the second and third generations in a narrow context, in a family environment, with the family and with the Portuguese friends.
