Abstract

In recent years, the volume of audiovisual productions has increased exponentially thanks to the development of new technologies and the ubiquity of mass media on a global scale. Regarding child and teen audiences, the mass consumption of audiovisual products contributed to the construction of a new type of viewer familiarised with the image/word in motion, both in a TV or computer screen. In this article, I intend to share the preliminary results of an exploratory study on the impact of dubbing in Portuguese television bearing in mind that children and teenagers are the main consumers /receivers of this type of interlinguistic translation. Considering that television programming influences decisively the consumption of translated audiovisual products, it is crucial to understand how this scenario could create a more receptive public to dubbing in the near future.
