ION LUCA CARAGIALE AND THE MEDIA MODERNITY IN THE WORLD OF THE WORK

After the recent emergence of Romanian books dedicated to the publicist work of
Ion Luca Caragiale (Pârvulescu: 2011) the author of the present material returns to the
study of the classical writer through his work describing the world of newspaper
newsrooms (Marinescu: 2005 and Marinescu: 2005b). This study presents the major themes
of media modernity that characterizes the literary work of Ion Luca Caragiale: 1. Ion Luca
Caragiale about Stultitiae Laus and modern media; 2. Ion Luca Caragiale and the media
functions in the Romanian society at end of the XIXth century; 3. The gazette of (un) (in) /
formation; 4. Ion Luca Caragiale about media news and their interpreting functions; 5. Ion
Luca Caragiale about the educational function of newspapers; 6. Ion Luca Caragiale about
entertainment and the show of newspapers; 7. Ion Luca Caragiale about newspapers and
triggering mechanisms of solidarity; 8. Caragiale about the history of Romanian journalism
and media communication tools; 9. Ion Luca Caragiale: newspapers and duel; 10. Ion Luca
Caragiale – field journalist or of opinion? Although he earned his living as a journalist,
translator and writer, Caragiale was and remains one of the most important playwrights and
among the most important literary figures in the history of his country.
