Lies and disinformation are ancient phenomena that have permeated human history. Over the years, the rise of the digital world has drastically accelerated the spread of these concepts, making it almost imperceptible to distinguish between truth and lies. This evolution, despite its advantages, has also awakened a dark side where the increased spread of disinformation is evident. In this scenario, the manipulation of public opinion, influencing behavior or obtaining political, economic or ideological advantages, whether intentionally or not, become the central focus of these concepts. This article will give an overview of the concepts of disinformation, how it spreads, disinformation today, where and how it manifests itself, and its consequences. Finally, some practices for preventing this problem will be suggested.
