This article is the product of a larger research that is underway in teacher training of Portuguese as a foreign language (PLE) in Senegal. The study aims to review the training of PLE teachers, regarding the development of the skills necessary for the teaching of a foreign language, and to reflect on the recruitment of PLE teachers for the different levels of education. To this end, after a brief overview of the implementation of the teaching of Portuguese in Senegal and the presentation of the educational system where the Portuguese language is taught, we will highlight the type of training received by future PLE teachers and we will try to list some of the difficulties felt in the field based on the experience of teaching PLE in the Senegalese context.
