The objective of this study is to investigate the development of studies on information practices in Brazil, highlighting the main advisors and authors most referenced in doctoral theses linked to the country's Postgraduate Programs (PPGCIs). A theoretical presentation on the theme is made to understand the concept using bibliographic research as a method to theoretically support the study and documentary research as a method to search for theses available in the Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD) of the Brazilian Institute of Information, Science and Technology (IBICT). Using the term “information practices” it was possible to identify the total number of theses defended by PPGCI, the main advisors and the most cited authors on the topic of information practices. It is concluded that PPGCIs linked to seven Brazilian institutions developed studies on information practices, and most of the theses were developed by students from UFMG. The professors who supervised the largest number of works on the topic were Prof. Dr. Edvaldo Carvalho Alves, professor at UFPB and Prof. Dr. Carlos Alberto Ávila Araújo, professor at UFMG, the latter also the most cited author in the theses on information practices available in the IBICT BDTD database.
