Abstract

The automation of academic research and writing processes has posed numerous challenges for society, especially for researchers and educators. In addition to digital information and communication technologies (DICT), the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) has highlighted the need to expand studies into its ethical use and to create guidelines for various social segments, especially in the context of academic research. It's not a question of censoring its use, but of enhancing it through ethical and rational application, helping researchers to find new sources of information and, consequently, new references and perspectives. To this end, this study analyzed the use of artificial intelligence as a tool to support research in the field of Information Science. The objectives were to identify strategies for using AI as a source of information in the development of academic research in this area. This is an exploratory, explanatory and qualitative-quantitative study, in which AI was used to select and analyze data extracted from texts of Brazilian scientific production in Information Science. The conclusion is that the use of AI in scientific research is revolutionizing access, production and management of information, as well as enabling intelligent data retrieval, pattern extraction and automated knowledge synthesis. However, it can also generate information overload. It is therefore essential to balance the use of these technologies with rigorous ethical and methodological practices, ensuring that the potential of AI is exploited responsibly and effectively.
