Disrupting the Conventional: The Impact of Generative AI Models on Creativity in Visual Communications

Abstract

The advanced generative artificial intelligence (AI) models can significantly transform visual communications by presenting new prospects for creativity and innovation.
This article examines the influence of generative AI on the creative processes in visual communications, assessing the possible benefits and obstacles that emerge when using AI-generated material. By leveraging current academic work, we argue that the phenomenon of steady dissemination has the potential to disrupt conventional creative processes by equipping users with novel tools and approaches for exploration. Nevertheless, it is important to highlight the potential drawbacks of relying too much on AI-generated material and underline the crucial role that human intervention plays in maintaining creativity and authenticity. Furthermore, we
analyze the ramifications of the steady diffusion on the future of visual communications and the significance of human creativity in a swiftly changing global landscape.

Author Biographies

Wilson Gomes Caldeira , University of Saint Joseph, Macau, China

Wilson Gomes Caldeira  is currently a Guest Lecturer and PhD candidate in Global Studies (Communication) at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) in Macau, China. He earned his MBA from USJ in 2016 and a BA in Photography from the Portuguese Instituto Politécnico de Tomar in 2010. His research focuses on the impact of Artificial Intelligence on communication processes. In addition to his academic work, Wilson has published several articles on AI and communication, exploring the intersection of technology and its transformative role in contemporary media and visual perception.

José Manuel Simões, University of Saint Joseph, Macau, China

Received a Postdoc in Communication Science from the Portuguese Catholic University (2017) and a PhD in Global Studies from the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), Macau-China (2011) with Summa Cum Laude. He has a Master of Arts in Communication and Journalism from the Faculty of Letters of Coimbra University, Portugal, and a Bachelor's Degree in International Journalism from the Superior School of Journalism, Porto, Portugal, where he taught for seven years. He is an Associate Professor and USJ Head of the Media, Art & Technology Department. He published worldwide and participated in exhibitions, conferences, and academic committees on three continents. He published eleven books and is the editor, organizer, and co-author of five other books related to journalism and culture. Simões published extensively in international academic journals and media outlets, especially about Communication and Media
