Consonance and Deriving: From Cultural Studies to Popular Music Studies

Abstract

In this study, my aim is to analyze the current State of the Art of Popular Music Studies, exploring analytically its close correlation with the field of Cultural Studies. It is intended, therefore, to carry out a comparative survey of the various currents of thought and methodologies related nowadays to this field of knowledge, which is still at a consolidation stage. I will look especially to its conditions in Portugal. Thus, throughout the article, I propose multimodal reflections and critical hypotheses.
