Timorese aesthetic and literary production in the Portuguese language is, to a large extent, unknown to the Portuguese-speaking public, proving to be peripheral both in reception and understanding. The present article intends to counteract the few iterary studies about Luís Cardoso and his native culture. Based on this intentionality, this exercise intends to attempt a literary reading of Luís Cardoso's work in articulation with the anthropological, historical and cultural elements of Timor-Leste. It is believed that the unveiling of the native symbology to the readers allows to reach deeper levels of reading and closer to the possible meaning proposed by the author.
