The Fantastic in Rudyard Kipling's On the Edge of the Abyss

This article analyses the short story At the Pit's Mouth by english writer Joseph Rudyard Kipling, assuming that it belongs to the fantastic literature. First of all, present a brief biography of the writer. Next, we have described the maincharacteristics of the concepts of “fantastic” and “weird” presented by Tzvetan Todorov in the book Introdução à literatura fantástica, which will be supplemented by the ideas of other theorists. Finally, we analyze the selected text through these theoretical references.
