The five transtexual relationships formalized by Genette (the architextual, the hypertextual, the metatexual, the paratexual and the intertexual) are the starting point for an analysis of Afonso Cruz’s literary work. Rich in citations and references to authors and facts that are not always real, it requires the elaboration of more specific operative concepts in the scope of pseudo-citation, self-citation and fictional citation. In this context of a literary hesitation, where the reader questions himself about the veracity of the references, the irony of Cruz is read as a curiosity incitation and the search for an original and personal knowledge of the world.
