This paper aims to analyse the novels of Matthew Lewis and Eça de Queiroz, through the iconic characters such as the Monk Ambrosio and Father Amaro - in the literary works "O Monge" and "O Crime do Padre Amaro". It notes various themes, including religious, political and social.
