In order to deepen and explore the dynamic relationship of interculturality and art, this article aims to answer three questions. In the first one: "What is art?", an attempt is made to find a definition for the concept. By analysing the work and life of the painter Vincent van Gogh (among others), it aims to understand "Who possessed the authority to decide what was or was not considered art in the past?" The third question uses the comparison between the past and the present, as well as concepts obtained in the Curricular Unit of Intercultural Studies, to understand "Why is it that what was not considered art a few centuries ago, is today?".
