Abstract

This article analizes a chapter from the book “El corazón helado” from the author Almudena Grandes. With a brief explanation of the Spanish Civil War, the work is historically contextualized in a period of devastation, social, economic, and political instability. The focus of the analysis is based on one of the two families portrayed in the work, encompassing the victims of the dictatorship, who is forced to abandon their country in search of refuge. The article analyzes how the generations of emigrated families are affected by the changes in country and culture, how they face social integration and emigration itself. It also focuses on the transmission of traditions and cultural identity through the generations.
