Abstract

We live in an increasingly globalized world, where working with people from different cultural backgrounds has become the norm rather than the exception. Multicultural teams bring considerable potential for innovation, creativity, and adaptability. However, this potential is not always fully realized. In many cases, what should be an advantage becomes a challenge, particularly in terms of communication. In this context, intercultural communication, combined with the development of skills such as empathy and cultural intelligence, emerges as a key factor in team success.

This article argues that intercultural communication is a strategic factor in the management of multicultural teams, as it helps reduce misunderstandings, manage conflicts, and build trust among individuals with different cultural backgrounds. Therefore, organizations should develop cultural intelligence, active listening, and communication adaptation skills in order to transform diversity into effective collaboration.

This article aims to explore precisely this issue—the role of communication in managing multicultural teams. Throughout the analysis, it becomes clear that cultural differences influence how individuals communicate, interpret messages, and build relationships. Misalignments in communication can lead to misunderstandings, conflicts, and difficulties in collaboration.

On the other hand, cultural awareness can bring people closer together, align expectations, and foster environments of trust. In this sense, intercultural communication, combined with the development of skills such as empathy and cultural intelligence, emerges as a key factor for team success.
