The Impact of excessive consumption of digital contents in the human being

Abstract

Over the past two decades, the accelerated digitalization of society has deeply transformed information consumption patterns, particularly among younger generations. In this article, I analyse the impact of excessive digital content consumption on human beings, addressing three interconnected dimensions: impulsive information-seeking behaviours, the neurological mechanisms associated with dopamine production, and the progressive degradation of concentration capacity. The analysed data reveal a reduction in the average attention span from 150 to 47 seconds between 2004 and 2024, with neurological correspondence documented through electroencephalography studies. The findings suggest that the solution does not lie in eliminating technology, but in the intentional integration of pedagogical strategies that promote digital literacy and attention management within the current educational models.
