Abstract

In a context of growing cultural diversity and increasingly frequent social interactions, understanding communication processes is essential to avoid misunderstandings and foster effective relationships. Human communication goes far beyond words, being deeply influenced by nonverbal cues such as gestures, facial expressions, and tone of voice. This article analyses the role of these cues in emotional expression, interaction, and social influence, as well as their variations across different cultural contexts, based on relevant theoretical frameworks. Elements such as facial expressions, body postures, eye contact, paralinguistics, use of personal space, touch, and silence are examined, highlighting that these behaviours can reinforce, replace, or contradict verbal communication. It is argued that attention to nonverbal aspects has practical implications for preventing intercultural misunderstandings, strengthening interpersonal relationships, and improving communication in professional contexts.
