Abstract

The purpose of this article is to discuss the idea that governments should not take policy measures for the development and growth of National Health System (NHS) without taking into account their financial sustainability.

Licenciada em Finanças Empresariais no Instituto Superior de Contabilidade e Administração de Lisboa no ano de 2014; Douturada em Organização e Gestão de Empresas no ISCTE-IUL - Instituto Superior Ciências Trabalho e da Empresa no ano de 2004; Mestre em Políticas e Gestão de Recursos Humanos no ISCTE-IUL - Instituto Superior Ciências Trabalho e da Empresa no ano de 1997; Licenciada em Psicologia na Faculdade de Psicologia e Ciências da Educação - UL no ano de 1992.

Susan Burnett, Imperial College London- Centre for Patient Safety and Service Quality

Having worked in the health sector for over twenty years Susan has experience on the board of high profile organisations. For five years she was Director of National Programmes at the National Patient Safety Agency. Her research interests include national policy for patient safety and its impact at the frontline, comparing the approaches taken in different European countries; organisational strategies to improve patient safety; and the role of the Board, senior leaders and managers in patient safety including the impact of management systems on the reliability of healthcare. Susan runs the Centre’s consultancy group and is involved in a wide range of projects in the field of patient safety and service quality
