Artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare outlines a transformative landscape, where advanced technologies are gradually and innovatively being incorporated into various facets of medical care and research. This article is part of a broader study on the applications, trends, and limitations of artificial intelligence in health research. A specific focus was defined for this event, aiming to highlight the main applications. Thus, the general objective of this article was to present AI applications used in medical diagnosis and prognosis, in the discovery of new drugs and treatments, and in the personalization of health services. The method was descriptive with a qualitative approach. The methodology used was a bibliographic review on the Scielo and PubMed platforms, aiming at a simplified literature review. As results, the article highlighted the categories: medical diagnosis and prognosis, discovery of new drugs and treatments, and personalization of medicine and health services. The final considerations, based on the main findings, point to the need for regulations that ensure the protection of patient data while promoting research and the application of AI in healthcare, a topic of increasing relevance.
