Uses of Artificial Intelligence in the Field of Information Science in Brazil

Abstract

Information Science is an interdisciplinary field that, over the years, has received contributions from various fields of knowledge. Currently, Artificial Intelligence, an area that originated within Computer Science and has become the subject of diverse research, has been gaining ground within the field. Given this growing research in this field, this work defined the following problem: what are the possible applications of Artificial Intelligence in Information Science? The overall objective was to analyze the applications of Artificial Intelligence in Information Science based on the literature in Brazil. Regarding the methodological procedures, this work consists of a qualitative bibliographic study. Based on this premise, a Systematic Review of the literature in the field in Brazil was conducted to understand what the scientific community has studied on this topic. The results reveal that scientific production is focused on Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and Information and Knowledge Organization, presenting possible uses of some models and tools. It is also noted that researchers have developed applied studies of tools based on machine learning, data mining, natural language processing (NLP), and deep learning models. It is concluded that researchers in this field need to continue investigating these tool models in order to contribute to the development of research in Information Science.
