Abstract

It presents guidelines for librarians who wish to undertake work in the area of Information Management. To this end, the specific objectives are: a) to conceptualize entrepreneurial culture and practice through a bibliographic survey b) to identify works in the literature that deal with entrepreneurship in Library Science c) to map companies that provide services within the area of Library Science and Information Management d) to understand the challenges and experiences of librarians who provide services in the area in Brazil. This research is characterized as applied, exploratory and descriptive research with a quantitative-qualitative approach.Regarding the technical procedures of the research, it is a bibliographic research because it was necessary to carry out a survey in the Information Science Database (BRAPCI), in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo) and in the Portal of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) in the period 1980 to 2024. Thus, 43 works were recovered that after reading (100%), only 18 (41.9%) were in accordance with the research objectives that were presented in the theoretical basis on entrepreneurship in Library Science and were used in the discussion of the results. Furthermore, the works found helped in the creation of guidelines related to the main objective of this research. Furthermore, to achieve one of the objectives, a mapping of companies created by librarians who provide services within the area of Information Management was carried out on social media (Instagram, LinkedIn and professional groups on Facebook), in literature and in professional groups to get to know the librarians who have businesses in the area of Information Management. 62 companies were found in Brazil that comprised the universe of this research, but only 25 responded to the survey. With the collections, it was possible to verify the niche of activity, year of creation of the company, formalization of the company, registration with the Federal Council of Librarianship, regions where the company operates, company differentials, challenges to undertake. Finally, based on bibliographic research and data collection with Brazilian entrepreneurial librarians, the Guidelines for entrepreneurship in the area of Information Management are presented. It is expected that by following the guidelines presented in this research, librarians can overcome the challenges of undertaking and taking advantage of emerging opportunities, in a way that contributes to the consolidation of entrepreneurship in Library Science and Information Management, as well as expanding and strengthening the librarian's performance in different areas and niches, contributing to the visibility of the professional and the profession, as well as opening up new emerging spaces of action for the area.
